It’s OK to push the button

May 14, 2018

So you’ve never pushed your OnStar button. It’s OK. It’s actually pretty common for first-time button pushers to have some hesitations. Will I be charged even though it’s a trial? (No.) Do I need my account information? (No.) Is my request button-push worthy? (You bet.) Let’s meet a few Members whose first OnStar experience delivered what they needed and helped dispel their button-push jitters.

Ready to rescue

“One of the biggest things I worry about is my daughter’s safety when she is on the road,” says Lisa, an OnStar Member who lives in Pennsylvania. “When her tire went flat, I was worried as she was on the side of a very busy road. Anything can happen. OnStar made sure she got the help she needed and was safe.”

The flat-tire incident was the first time her daughter had ever pushed the OnStar button, and Lisa says it gave her peace of mind: “I really believe no parent should be without OnStar on their child’s vehicle.”

Did you know? Roadside Assistance* is included in the OnStar Safety & Security Plan.* So there’s no additional cost for getting a tow and ride to the dealership. We’re here 24/7 if you run out of gas, get a flat tire or need a jump.

The perfect accessory

Dorian Blair loves his Chevrolet Corvette. So much so, he drove an hour and a half from Virginia Beach to Mechanicsville, Va., just to catch a big sale at a Corvette specialty store.

But his well-known mapping app let him down. “I couldn’t find the street,” Blair says, “so I pushed the blue OnStar button to get Turn-by-Turn Navigation.* The nice lady told me to make a legal U-turn, drive 500 feet and make a left turn. It turned out that I had passed the road about seven times.”

“That was the first time I ever hit the OnStar button,” Blair says. “It definitely gives you peace of mind, especially when you’re in the middle of nowhere and you have access to help if you need it.”

Did you know? An OnStar Advisor can send directions right to your vehicle’s navigation system (if equipped) or stay on the line with you to guide you around road closures on the fly.

Pay it forward

Victoria Cullen and her husband were on the Florida Turnpike in their Cadillac Escalade when the pickup truck in front of them blew a tire, swerved into the middle lane and struck another vehicle.

“My first thoughts were a prayer that we’d be safe, that the driver would be OK and thank goodness we have OnStar,” says Victoria. “I reached for the red Emergency button and told the Advisor what happened, and he contacted first responders.”

Thankfully no one was seriously injured. That was the first time Victoria had ever pushed the red Emergency button. “The first thing the Advisor asked was if we were OK,” she says. “He was just great, very calming. And it was a good feeling to be able to help someone else in need.”

Did you know? You can push your red Emergency button* to make a Good Samaritan call when someone else is in need. If you see an accident or a stranded traveler, just push your red Emergency button to send help their way.

Give the button push a try

Here’s what you can expect: an Advisor who is ready to help in any way they can. No matter what you need — directions, help on the road or a check of key vehicle systems — just push the button to be connected to what you need. Not sure if we can help you? Push the button and find out!
