Make your drive more convenient and safer by talking to Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa or an OnStar Advisor

Gone are the days when driving alone meant you didn’t have anyone to talk to. Now you can ask your preferred vehicle voice assistant to play your favorite artist or find the latest episode of that podcast you’re really into. It can call home or help you get there faster when traffic clogs your usual route.

And that’s not to mention the ways the latest in-vehicle voice-activated technology can help make your drive a little safer by removing a few distractions when you’re behind the wheel. With OnStar in your eligible Chevrolet, Buick, GMC or Cadillac vehicle, Google built-in* and Alexa Built-in* offer you an easy way to stay connected while you’re on the go. To get started just say “Hey Google” (if using Google Assistant) or call on “Alexa” (if you’re using Amazon). Of course, an OnStar Advisor is always available and ready to help.

Google built-in

Google Assistant,* Google Maps and more on Google Play can make your life (and your drive) easier in compatible vehicles. To activate Google Assistant, tap the Google Assistant icon on the center display, press the PUSH-TO-TALK button on the steering wheel or say “Hey Google” inside the vehicle.

  • Got a favorite song? Of course you do. “Hey Google, play [the name of your favorite song].” (That works for podcasts and audiobooks too.)
  • Need to call a friend to tell them about your favorite song? “Hey Google, call [friend’s name].”
  • Need a reminder to call that friend later? “Hey Google, remind me to call [friend’s name] at 3 p.m.”
  • Worried about traffic? “Hey Google, find the fastest route home.”
  • Too hot? “Hey Google, lower the temperature to 65 degrees.”
  • Too cold now? “Hey Google, raise the temperature back to 68 degrees.”
  • Need a break to catch your breath and calm a crazy day? “Hey Google, find the nearest coffee shop.”
  • “Forgot to turn off the lights at home? Easily connect to and control compatible smart home devices while in the car. “Hey Google, turn off the front door light.”

Alexa Built-in

Put Amazon Alexa to work even when you’re away from home. Press the PUSH-TO-TALK button on your steering wheel or use the In-Vehicle App* to connect with all of Alexa’s powers.

  • Control smart devices in your home* from the road. “Alexa, turn on the living room lights.”
  • Find nearby restaurants when you don’t want to cook. “Alexa, where’s the closest Italian restaurant?”
  • Want to cook? Add items to your Whole Foods shopping cart. “Alexa, add pasta to my cart.”
  • Need to go get that pasta? “Alexa, where’s the nearest Whole Foods?”
  • Don’t want to eat alone? Text an invitation, hands-free. “Alexa, text Mom.”

OnStar Advisors

Need nonemergency assistance? Push the blue OnStar button in your vehicle and you’ll be connected to an Advisor — available 24 hours a day, seven days a week — to help you in all kinds of situations.

  • “Is there a pet store nearby? I need to buy a new ball for my pup.”
  • “Just got a new ball for my pup. Is there a dog park nearby?”
  • “Uh. Hi. Locked my keys in the car at the dog park. Could you unlock my doors?”
  • “Is there a pet-friendly restaurant nearby?”
  • “Could you send the directions to my vehicle?”
