2G network sunset

The 2G network sunset has impacted some GM vehicles

The 2G network that your vehicle once used to connect to OnStar was deactivated in December 2022. What you need to know

What is the 2G network sunset and how does it affect my OnStar service?

As cellular carriers transition to 4G or 5G connectivity, vehicles using a 2G connection lost in-vehicle OnStar service. In the U.S., most major network providers completed the transition in December 2022. Since the transition, 2G network connectivity is no longer provided. The decision to deactivate these networks was made by wireless network providers as they work to upgrade to newer technology.

Certain GM vehicles on the road today leveraged the 2G network for OnStar connectivity. As a result of the 2G network sunset, the three-button interface in your vehicle was deactivated.

Which GM vehicles are impacted by the deactivated 2G network?

In the U.S. and Canada, some 2015 and all 2014 model year and older GM vehicles were impacted following the 2G network sunset. This also includes former GM brands, such as Pontiac, Saturn and HUMMER.

Can I still use the OnStar buttons in my vehicle?

No. The three-button interface in your vehicle was deactivated following the 2G network sunset.
